Keyword Cannibalization Is Killing Your Rankings

by Kami

Keyword cannibalization happens when two or more pages on your site target the same keyword. Google doesn't know which one to rank, so it picks neither — or worse, it picks the wrong one.

How to spot it

Search site:yourdomain.com "target keyword" in Google. If multiple pages show up, you have a problem.

The fix

  1. Consolidate — merge the weaker page into the stronger one
  2. Differentiate — adjust one page to target a different intent
  3. Canonical — point the duplicate to the primary with a canonical tag

Don't let your own content compete against itself.
